1. Introduction. Duplex inlet and outlet ball mills are widely used in 200300 MW coalfired generating units. This pulverizing system is easily adaptable to multiple coal type and is simple to operate, thus it is suitable for pulverizing coal with low grindability, high abrasiveness and required degree of fineness.
The coal ball mill is mainly composed of a feeding device, main bearing, rotating part, transmission device, and lubrication system. It is widely used in the cement industry, thermal power generation, metallurgical industry, chemical industry, and other fields.
The working principle of the coal mill is illustrated in Fig. 1 [25].In normal practice, there are two coal feeders for each mill. Once the raw coal flows into the mill barrel with hot primary air, the iron balls inside the rotating barrel will continuously crash the coal until it is fine enough to be blown out the mill to the furnace.
Ball mills. The ball mill is a tumbling mill that uses steel balls as the grinding media. The length of the cylindrical shell is usually times the shell diameter (Figure ). The feed can be dry, with less than 3% moisture to minimize ball coating, or slurry containing 2040% water by weight.
